Hornbach opened its 18th store in the Netherlands in Nijmegen today. The 20 000 m² store was constructed in just nine months and has a drive-in covering over 4 500 m².
In building the new store, the company states that it put great emphasis on a resource-efficient method of construction. This included linking up to the district heating system as well as particularly high insulation values for the façade and roof. “The store has a green roof, which collects water in addition to offering food for insects, acting as a cooling influence in summer and ensuring clean air in the immediate vicinity.
This makes our store quite unique throughout the Netherlands,” says store manager Niels van Essen. Nijmegen is the most populous city in the Gelderland province.
